About

Hi, I'm Emily Pederson, a photographer, filmmaker, and photo editor from Rhode Island. My work focuses on human rights and social movements. I believe in using documentary work to contribute to collective memory, most of all for the communities the work is about.

After studying Photography and Human Rights at New York University, I moved to Mexico for three years, where I covered internal displacement and the impact of the Drug War on Mexican society. Now back in the US, I'm photo editing at The Wall Street Journal and continue working on documentary projects. I also do Spanish-English translation for documentaries, texts and events.

My work has been featured by The Atlantic, The New York Times, The Marshall Project, The Guardian, Field of Vision, and Open Society Foundations, among others.
